The project aims to strengthen girls’ education and promote gender equality in Digelu-Tijo District, Ethiopia. Building on the previous project phase, it supports girls to stay in school, complete their education and access future livelihood opportunities, while helping communities prevent early marriage, abduction and other forms of gender-based violence. The project is implemented by Sinqee in Gender Equality Social and Development Association (SGESDA), a local civil society organisation.Arssi and Akaki District.
The project directly involve 7,681 girls and women, including schoolgirls, members of women’s self-help groups, young women engaged in income-generating activities and university interns. Indirectly reached are parents, community leaders, boys in schools and local government stakeholders.
Despite progress in education, girls in rural Ethiopia continue to face significant disadvantages. Early marriage, abduction, gender-based violence and unequal social norms often prevent girls from completing their education. In Digelu-Tijo District, many families struggle with poverty, while inadequate sanitation facilities and limited access to hygiene products further contribute to absenteeism and school dropout among girls. Through this project, Sinqee in Gender Equality Social and Development Association (SGESDA) builds on previous successes to strengthen girls' education, empower women and promote lasting change within schools and communities.
