Coming straight from the Austrian winter, the tropical climate here is a challenge. On the other hand, Beira is a relaxed city and people are pleasant. And I got a warm welcome from my horizont3000-colleagues.
Already as a child I knew the ÖED (Österreichischer Entwicklungshelferdienst, a predecessor of horizont3000) and dreamed of working in the field of sustainable development cooperation in faraway countries.
When this wish became more concrete and feasible a few years ago, horizont3000 was therefore the first organisation, I was looking for opportunities for an assignment.
I have long been interested in development economics and the reasons for the different (economic) development of countries. NGOs offer me the opportunity to get involved in development cooperation and to contribute my extensive professional experience.
I enjoy working among my Mozambican colleagues. At the moment, mainly to better understand them and the processes in the organisation. Later, to work with them to find solutions for the challenges they face and to support the development of the organisation.
Born in 1960 and raised in Flachau, Salzburg, Johann Felser studied business administration in Graz. Before and after his studies, he was already drawn to faraway places: he served in the UN peacekeeping mission in Syria and worked as an IT programmer in Mumbai/India. Then he spent most of his professional life working for the Austrian SPAR Group, the last 15 years as Chief Financial Officer for the shopping centre division. He is an enthusiastic business economist and is fascinated by making companies/organisations work. His professional focus is on accounting, controlling, financing and organisation.
