Azada Verde Moçambique is a non-profit organization that works with rural communities in the south of Sofala province, mainly in the districts of Búzi and Chibabava, with the aim of fighting hunger, poverty and inequalities. Its work focuses on promoting the regeneration of ecosystems, the development of local and sustainable food systems, and the mitigation of the effects of climate change.

In 2025, with the support of the knowhow3000 program and the award won at the horizont3000 Knowlympics, Azada Verde's team had the opportunity to strengthen an essential tool for their daily work: Microsoft Excel.

Strengthening capacities to transform realities

On August 6th and 7th, a practical training on basic Excel was held at the organization's office in Beira. The workshop, taught by Gerafim Joaquim, a specialist in data management and analysis, brought together 15 people, including 13 Azada Verde employees and 2 technical advisors from horizont3000.

Although at first glance it may seem like technical training, the initiative was much more than that: it was an opportunity to strengthen the team's internal capacities and improve efficiency in resource tracking, results evaluation, and activity planning.

During the training, participants learned how to:

  • Efficiently enter and organize data.
  • Create and format spreadsheets adapted to the needs of the projects.
  • Perform calculations using simple formulas.
  • Create and use charts to represent results.
  • Insert Excel spreadsheets and charts into reports for donors and partners.
  • Protect documents and worksheets to improve information security.

The participants left very satisfied, as shown by the following opinions:

Cardoso Malango, agroforestry technician at Azada Verde:

"Despite the short training time, I learned a lot. I now know how to do calculations, create spreadsheets, and protect documents—something that previously gave us a hard time editing incoming files. The training was very important to me and motivated me to want to buy a computer to continue practicing."

Priscila Malotane, reforestation technician at Azada Verde:

"I really enjoyed the training and managed to achieve my goals and objectives. I already had some knowledge about charts, but with the simple formulas and shortcuts I learned new things. The most useful content for me was the protection of the spreadsheets. Thank you!"

For Azada Verde, this type of training represents a direct investment in strengthening its team and, consequently, in improving the impact on the communities with which it works.

As Samuel Sibanda, the organization's national director, pointed out:

"The €750 prize obtained at Knowlympics has had a real impact on our work: it has allowed us to strengthen our capabilities and continue growing as a team. We hope that this partnership will continue to open avenues for development and positive impact on the communities we serve."

Azada Verde continues to bet on learning and training as tools for change, convinced that when knowledge grows within the team, so does the ability to transform realities.
