From 30 September to 4 October, advisors from Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and the management team of horizont3000's East Africa Regional Office gathered on the shores of beautiful Lake Victoria to convene the 2024 Annual Advisory Meeting.

partner organisations joining

As an important novelty, representatives of partner organisations joined the meeting. All participants brought with them a wealth of knowledge to share and a rich pool of experience to reflect upon. The regular exchange between advisors, partner organisations and the Regional Office not only allows all participants to be reviewed and updated at institutional and project level, but also provides an opportunity to meet personally and network with colleagues. In addition, the meeting offered some training and peer-to-peer capacity building. With this in mind, workshops were held on topics such as managing expectations and the role of the advisors, as well as intercultural communication to strengthen mutual understanding between advisors and their partner organisations.

Further trainings

The Kenyan partner organisation Awareness Against Human Trafficking (HAART) shared their expertise in developing their podcast "HAART Felt Conversations" to make human trafficking more visible and heard.
Other sessions focused on outcome mapping as an alternative method of project evaluation and effective methods of communication in organisations.
The continuous efforts on gender equality were presented and the recent trainings and outcomes discussed as well the gender marker practised.
The outgoing representatives of advisors reflected on their work over the past year and a new duo of dynamic representatives was elected.

Team building

Despite the tight schedule, there was time for relaxation and team building. One afternoon was filled with laughter as the different teams of advisors and the Regional Office enjoyed games that tested their problem-solving and teamwork skills. Walks along the shore and a few drinks on the beaches of Lake Victoria rounded off the days and forged friendships across projects and borders.
