The state of Marsabit in arid and semi-arid northern Kenya is already suffering from the effects of climate change. These are characterised by prolonged and widespread drought. Women in pastoralist communities are particularly vulnerable and affected by poverty and the effects of climate change. At the same time, they do not have equal access to rights and are often marginalised, discriminated against and excluded. The effects of climate change can increase the workload of women or make it more difficult for them to work. While women have knowledge that is useful in planning and implementing adaptation strategies at the community level, they do not always have the opportunity to voice their ideas or the time to participate.
