Goals

  • The advisory assignment focuses on strengthening the technical and institutional capacities of partner organizations in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala to mitigate the negative effects of climate change and implement a wide range of climate protection measures. This South-South assignment supports the integration of environmental and climate strategies into HORIZONT3000’s regional interventions, aligning with the organization’s 2022-2030 Environmental and Climate Policy.
  • A key objective is to enhance climate planning and management capacities among partner organizations, with a strong focus on the participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups. The assignment has successfully mapped key climate actors in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua to facilitate future cooperation. Additionally, the environmental and climate self-assessment process for partner organizations under the ADA framework program (2023-2026) has been initiated. A training plan for eight organizations within the Community of Practice 'Familia Campesina' has been developed, enhancing their engagement in climate networks.
  • Regular activities include conducting training sessions for partner organizations, workshops on rainwater harvesting for household food production, and guiding environmental and climate self-assessments. The assignment also supports the development of internal regulations and an organizational structure for the 'Familia Campesina' network at the regional level. Furthermore, the advisor assists in drafting baseline studies for ADES’ water access project in El Salvador and provides technical input for FUNDESYRAM’s climate resilience project proposal.
  • Through these efforts, the assignment strengthens regional climate action by fostering collaboration, capacity-building, and policy implementation among civil society organizations, ensuring long-term environmental sustainability and resilience.
  • SDG targets: 6.6; 13.2; 13.3; 15.3
