Refugees and local village communities have a secure livelihood and contribute to sustainable development in the resettlement areas of Rhino (Terego district) and Bidibidi (Yumbe district) in the West Nile region of Uganda.
Directly involved are 850 people (510 female and 340 male), indirectly involved 4.500 people (2.340 female and 2.160 male).
Over the past five years, horizont3000 in partnership with AFARD and PC (in consortium) has implemented the project 'Secure Livelihoods for South Sudanese Refugees and Host Communities in West Nile Region Uganda' (called Migration I and II) in Yumbe and Arua districts with financial support from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), BSIN and Caritas Carinthia. The project aimed to secure the livelihoods of refugees and host communities and thus contribute to sustainable development in Rhino Camp and the Bidibidi resettlement areas in the West Nile region of Uganda. This project represents the final consolidation phase of the project to support South Sudanese refugees and host communities in northern Uganda in their efforts to secure their livelihoods.
The local Ugandan organisation has set itself the goal of developing the West Nile Province in northern Uganda. AFARD has grown steadily over since 2014 and today implements numerous projects in the areas of smallholder agriculture, local value chains and vocational training.
